Brion Sullivan (GypsyDiver) - RIP Brion Sullivan (GypsyDiver) - RIP
Greg - 2 days 12 hours ago.
We lost GypsyDiver today. I met Brion through DiveBuddy. We quickly became friends. I had the pleasure of speaking with him a few times over the phone. Every time we spoke, I ended the conversation happier! Each call would include some jokes or interesting conversation that would cause him to laugh, which caused me to laugh. I ran into Brion and his wife, Bree, at a scuba trade show. They were such a cute couple. You can tell that Brion loved her very much. His arm was around her the whole time ...
Deep Down - A Macy Davis Story Deep Down - A Macy Davis Story
PeachyJordanScuba - 11 days 18 hours ago.
Note, this is a story, not informational post! The water was a sort of frothy blue. Whales and dolphins brushed the top of the water like whip cream over a hot coco. It was cold, salty, splashing every which way. Fish swam thickly in the water below and swarms of tuna bumped the side of the boat. Lucy hobbled over to her seat, the boat shaking and her stomach churning. "You okay there, Luce?" Captain Logan called from the wheel. Lucy shook her head, her red curls bouncing along as she sat down. ...

My Mom (Eve) and Biggest DiveBuddy Fan - RIP My Mom (Eve) and Biggest DiveBuddy Fan - RIP
Greg - 6/27/2014 2:06 PM
My Mom, Eve, passed away two weeks ago today (on June 13th, 2014). For several months she was battling pancreatic cancer. I felt it was important to share this news with my fellow dive buddies as many of you have interacted with my mom since we started this scuba community. My mom was my biggest DiveBuddy fan. She was always on the website. She replied to many of your forum topics. She commented on many of your photos. While she wasn’t a certified scuba diver, she was the best damn surface suppo...

Diving the Blue Heron Bridge in West Palm Beach
j1mbr0wn - 1/31/2014 6:30 PM
I recently went shore diving under the Blue Heron Bridge, and I had a blast. My first dive since moving from New Jersey to Florida, and it was nice to be able to just drive to the dive site. I enjoyed it so much, I wrote about it: voices.yahoo.com/article/10006814/diving-blue-heron-b...-beach-12511669.html Hope you enjoy it. Cheers, Jim...
Does The Image of Scuba Diving Reflect Your Style? Does The Image of Scuba Diving Reflect Your Style?
DiveWithMia - 1/24/2014 6:52 PM
What is the image of scuba diving today? Looking at campaigns recruiting the younger generation it reminds me of an old guy putting on “hip” clothes and trying to act like he’s young again with the end result being the people not really wanting to be affiliated with him. Like many sports, and thanks to the “Old Guys’ Club”, diving has historically been gender-biased, reeking of machismo and exclusivity. This attitude towards the sport, which may have been generated by the old school navy origins...
Top 10 Reasons to Scuba Dive... After You’ve Been Dumped!! Top 10 Reasons to Scuba Dive... After You’ve Been Dumped!!
DiveWithMia - 1/17/2014 5:44 PM
In the tourism industry I have the awesome opportunity to meet and chat with people all the time. A lot of these talks are the inspiration for my blogs and one topic that has been pretty interesting to me is the way romantic relationships play a role in scuba diving. Sadly, I’ve heard many people take a long hiatus from diving due to a break-up, but in my opinion, I think scuba diving is the exact remedy a person’s heart needs in order to plow through a traumatic, dramatic, bummer of a break-up....
Diving with Divers Down in Grand Cayman Diving with Divers Down in Grand Cayman
badintexas - 12/06/2013 8:01 AM
With our upcoming cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel coming near and being busy with work, school and family we realized that we hadn’t set up any dive excursions. It was a week before our trip and I panicked! We were already set on diving and snorkeling the Kittiwake in Grand Cayman so I started calling around to several shops to see what was available for our certain day and time. Our cruise line had diving excursions available but not the Kittiwake. After calling what seemed like 20 ...
Which is toughest... shark or crocodile? Which is toughest... shark or crocodile?
Aikidiver - 9/23/2013 9:32 AM
Finally we have an answer, as croc eats its fishy rival! British holidaymaker witnessed the savage moment while on a river cruise in Kadaku National Park in Australia It’s an old age question pondered by some of the greatest minds in the playground. Who would win: a crocodile or a shark? Now a British tourist has given a definitive answer to the riddle by capturing the moment one of the powerful reptiles munched on its aquatic rival. Holidaymaker Peter Jones, 62, witnessed the savage moment when...
Sea Monsters Are Eating Somalian Pirates
Aikidiver - 9/04/2013 8:12 AM
There have been reports of missing Somali Pirates off the coast of the Horn of Africa. Many news sources over look this story but Somali pirates are disappearing, or to say when they set sail, not all of them return. Tales of ghastly evil creatures lurking below devour their tiny boats and some use ammo too quickly which then can anger those slimy beasts whatever they are. Perhaps its a submarine, but more likely a living breathing squid like giant sea serpent monster that lurks in the oceans be...

Water Temps!!!
SDBR - 4/29/2013 8:35 PM
If you have an interest in determining what the ocean water temp. is where you may be going diving, N.O.A.A. has a website you can explore. It’s NOAA National Data Buoy Center. When you go to that website, you will see a map of the globe, along with many, many, many, red and yellow triangles. Enlarge the image for the area you want to check and click on one of the yellow triangles. Many of those buoys give the water temp., along with other information....
Attention Dive Shops: Do Not Fear the Internet Attention Dive Shops: Do Not Fear the Internet
Greg - 1/30/2013 8:01 AM
Some dive shops get it. Most do not. Rather than fear the Internet, bend it to your will and use it to grow your business and make divers happy. Accept the fact that modern scuba divers research and shop online for gear, travel and training. So put yourself out there! Get involved with social networks. DiveBuddy is here for you, so rather than just using Facebook or Twitter, make sure to have a presence where scuba divers are. Divers don’t go to Facebook to find new dive sites. Divers don’t use ...

I hope you all enjoy this time with family and friends. Remember what Thanksgiving is all about. The coming together of different types of people, sharing food, drink and stories. It’s also about getting to know your enemy so one day you control their land...but don’t think about that now, just enjoy some turkey and beer, world domination comes after Christmas. But seriously, thank you for being a part of the greatest scuba community this blue planet has ever seen. Here is a challenge for you: t...

Aquatic Burials L.L.C. provide an alternative to traditional dispersal of cremated ash (cremains) by placing the ash within environmentally safe, specialized urns called Ash Pods. The Ash Pod is then hand released, at a predetermined depth, in the waters surrounding Oahu, Hawaii. We offer a permanent, yet cost effective, placement for the cremains of loved ones in the depths of the Pacific Ocean surrounding Oahu. Once settled, Ash Pods allow life to abound by providing cover and hideaways for al...
