I live in S.E. Pennsylvania, I just bought a new wetsuit and want to try it out. Anyone know a good place to take it? Lake or river.

Well if it’s a 3 mil I wouldn’t go to Bainbridge, that’s one cold quarry! If it’s 7 mil there are a lot of places nearby, Scuba Earth will show you everything around you.

What mm is it?
If you bought it from your local dive shop connect with them and see what they recommend. If you didn’t there should be plenty of lakes close enough to test it out.

Chris,
Round Valley isn’t too far from you water temps should be upper 60’s by now. If the rain holds off Sat. we may go to try some new equipment. Nice peaceful non eventful dive.
You could tag along—need C card and must check in the office prior and after dive.
I would do Marsh Creek but with very low expectations—"a get we dive" and play with kayaks after. Water temps in 70’s.
July 5th we will be at the shore—water temps 55-75 depending on the winds.
There are many places—go to Scuba Earth.

Greg, are you doing Shark River Sunday? Mike is looking to dive but I can’t make high tide, we have conflicting plans :(

My suit is 7 mil.,I don’t have a lot of gear, I was just going to test out my suit to see how it feels in the water. I’ll probably just go to the little Lehigh.

My concern is whether or not I’d get in trouble for trying it out on a lake or river. I know Greenlane is a no go.

Ray,
With the tides, commitments, and weather, my best chance of getting under water this weekend is Round Valley—I will make that call Saturday Morning.
The Weekend of the 4th tides are perfect for diving—around lunch with the Sun the highest.
That is when I plan on getting out. It has been tough getting out due to life getting in the way.
Chris,
I belong to the Y, Upper Perk has nice pools with 12’ deep ends. I think you could be my guest.
The 7mm might be warm enough for the 80 degree water.
As long as you don’t use SCUBA they don’t mind mask, fins.

lake Nokamixon in bucks county. >dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/recreation/swimming/index.htm
Guess you might get a few odd looks, but WTH.

Scuba is also allowed with certification, sign in at the park office and a dive buddy.
Not much to see scuba from what I have read. Just like most of the state parks.

Lake Jean in Rickett’s Glenn allows scuba. I talk to one of the rangers who told me " not many come to scuba and no one comes back"

Or even a ride to the Jersey Shore. You can park at Resorts Casino for $15 ($5) with a players car, and walk a block to the beach.
There is also meter parking along the same block, with easy beach access.
There are a lot of suffers there early in the day. And you can break in your new wet suit with some good ’ol Atlantic ocean sea stink!

Thanks John, Nockamixon sounds like a good idea for today. This weather is probably keeping any on onlookers at home.

Don’t forget your mask, snorkel and fins. Plenty of fish in the lake, I just don’t know how much you’ll see with the overcast. Take some plastic bags for your feet to slip in to the suit, Those 7 mils can be tough getting in to. You can ask about the scuba at the office, but the rules are standard, c-card check in dive buddy, no diving near the dam. Maybe they can recommend a good area to dive.

If it sounds interesting I’m only 40 minutes away. Maybe we could try it some time.

Yeah I forgot how much of a pain 7mil can be, Haha. Yeah if you want to go there and need a dive buddy I’d be interested. Weekends are best for me.

If you don’t mind diving with a couple of old idiots I’ll hit you up in a few weeks for our next Dutch Springs (death lake) dive.
