Puerto Rico Diving Recommendations?

Hi All,

I am a new AOW Padi diver, about to book a scuba diving trip. After debating between Florida and Puerto Rico, I think I will most likely go to Puerto Rico to log some dives via a dive package for about a week. I understand that Florida involves renting a car and expensive housing since I heard that camping is not that practical there. Puerto Rico sounds more interesting in terms of affordability.

Any recommendations? Do you know of a good diving package?

Thanks for helping out!

I’ve dived all around the island, and Culebra is probably the best area for visibility and fish variety. A tiny uninhabited island just east of Culebra, called Culebrita, is the top Culebra dive spot in my opinion.

Airworks:

I have not dived in Culebra yet ( I should be ashmed ’casue I am Puerto Rican) however , I heard from friends that own dive operations in the Island, that the West Coast (form I am from and where I have done most of my diving) has the best diving in PR. Please check out this article by Scuba Diving Magazine on the TOP 10 Dives in PR. http://www.scubadiving.com/travel/caribbean-atlantic/puerto-rico-top-10-dives?cmpid=obinsite ( Yes Culebra is included). You need to head to the west and dive Desecheo Island (An unhabited marine Reserve in the Coast of Aguadilla) . One operator in the Island is the only one currently making regular trips to Desecheo - http://www.tainodivers.com/SCUBA_DIVING_PUERTO_RICO/WELCOME.html. You can also dive the famous Parguera Wall. Island Scuba can take you there form Guanica PR. http://www.sanjuandiver.com/. or you can go to La Parguera in Lajas PR and there are two operators there. West Divers http://www.westdiverspr.com/html/mainpage.html or Paradise Scuba. http://www.paradisescubasnorkelingpr.com/. Mayaguez PR has also nice sites for diving and here you can Check out http://www.diveshop-pr.com/, the ownber Papo is a good friend ( tell him I sent you)
