Sand spikes for sale

In my spare time, I make sand spikes, also called Lembeh spikes. I started using them almost seven years ago and will not dive without them anymore.

As a photographer, I find them useful to steady my camera rig, like a monopod. And, when you have your attention focused through a viewfinder, it is nice to be able to steady yourself so that you do not have to use your fins to adjust your position blindly.

No, I don’t think they are bad for the reef, as some will say, but will protect the reef from damage done by careless or unskilled divers.

Anyway, enough of the soapbox.

I became impatient with the poor quality or WEIGHT of the spikes out there. I decided to design and make an ultralight fiberglass spike that will stand up to the demands of hard diving. I have come up with a great design, I think.

I spend at least a month every year somewhere in the Pacific (PNG, Indonesia or Malaysia). I always take extra sand spikes to encourage other divers to see their value. I always come back empty handed having sold every one.

As for the ultralight quality? With baggage limits getting smaller all the time, and the expense of overweight in places like Indonesia, you need to save every ounce you can.

So, here are the spikes I sell;

They are MUCH improved from the ones I was making a couple of years ago. Yet, they are the same price that they were in 2008. They are $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping and handling. If there are multiple spikes going to the same place, only one shipping and handling is charged as multiple spikes can be placed in a tube.

Let me know if you want one. I can be reached at
