To put a completely different spin on things.... I might reconsider eating so many of those things.... just sayin... ;-) Garbage in water gunk out.

As amerry stated Zebra mussels have improved viz in the great lakes considerably. I would rather deal with lower viz if they could get rid of them. Their a pain to walk on and their covering our pristine wrecks.

Yea zebra mussels do this also. Problem is they are invasive and they reduce the amount of minerals and calcium in the water where they are and it usually hurts the fish population. In salt water its probably not as big of a deal because the ocean can handle it. But in the great lakes and places like Lake George in NY they actively search and kill zebra mussels. Dutch Springs in PA is filled with zebra mussels and the water there has the best visibility in the north east probably.

Another member posted this on their profile, and I thought I’d share. They said both tanks were filled with the same water at the same time...but the one on the right has oysters. Have you noticed similar effects where oysters improve water clarity?
