Ras Mohamed is the first protected place of Egypt, in South Sinai. It is a marine park. Nobody is allowed to fish, feed the fish, take something from the water or from its land, build in it, ... ; the place as to stay virgin as much as possible. We, as diving center, even build some mooring line to keep the reef away from any anchorage.
Paradise! You would say! Utopia would answear positively. But human beeings love economy and doesn`t look forward. Quick, everything as to be quick!
After 1995, tourism had been developped so fast that everything as been multiplicated: hotels, workers, boats, divers, glass and platic bottles, Mac Donald`s and KFC`s, the locals bedouins have turned to taxi drivers... Ras Mohamed sees a minimum of 3000 people a day, leaving garbages after them. Some cleaning days are organized, but it`s not enough. Conclusion: as always, every touristic place in the world -which as been chosen for its beauty- turns to be ruined. In Ras Mohamed, 15 years ago, you were diving into a aquarium. Today, it`s still wonderfull; but fastly, some corals are dying, less fish is coming, and the sharks in summertime getting rare.
Solution: Education.
