Bear River Reservoir is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at Bear River Road, Pioneer, CA 95666. The maximum depth is 81-90ft/25-27m. The average visibility is 21-25ft/6-8m.
There are several campgrounds here managed by Bear River Resort (209) 295-4868. This is a PG&E hydroelectric resource dam so the level falls constantly through the summer. Sometimes it is used by OW / AOW / Rescue classes. Dive by the dam or by the Marina. Better to bring a small boat or kayak and paddle to the back of the lake and dive around the rocks. It is an Altitude dive at 5800. Be sure to do a surface interval when you arrive. Sometimes you will see crayfish and trout. Mostly a fairly clear lake that is fun to dive if your camping out.
