Sam Forse Collins Recreation Area is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at 450 Spur 135, Burkeville,, TX 75932. This dive site has an average rating of 4.00 out of 5 from 1 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 71-80ft/22-24m. The average visibility is 26-30ft/8-9m.
There is a welcoming recreational area with tables and I think there’s a bathroom out there.
Dick’s Dive shop is relatively nearby. He runs a great and well stocked dive shop, he or his wife will be happy to rent you gear along with air fills and anything else you might need. Link to his website below
toledo-bend.net/scuba/index.asp?isflash=noThere is a sandbar that stretches a good distance from the shore. Ignore this area as the real dive site is a sunken forest that is a CRAZY cool and slightly spooky dive. The Viz stretches as far as your light will shine. It is pitch black past 30ft, flashlights are necessary!
The temperature will drop to around 60-65DEG in mid summer! So bring a full wetty and a hood!
We only went down to about 60ft but it goes much deeper. A trusted friend told me he went to 90ft.
It is known as the Sabine River channel and is the deepest part of the Reservoir.
This place is like Narnia, imagine a patch of woods with fallen and standing trees but no foliage. Probably one of my coolest dives to date and I have done some Cenote Cavern dives.
Directions to the cool place:
You will need to surface swim out about 75 yards so you can set your diver down flag because there are boats in the area. Just take a bearing straight off the beach, the site is huge.
At 75yd off the beach, set up your flag on the surface and begin your descent.
Watch yourself as there are full size trees below! You can tie off your flag line on one of the trees.
Enjoy!
