Greenport Jetty is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in NY. This dive site has an average rating of 2.00 out of 5 from 1 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 21-25ft/6-8m. The average visibility is 26-30ft/8-9m.
This is a great place for a large assortment of marine life including lobster. The area is sheltered from wind in most directions but boat wakes can be a problem on weekends. The current can be a problem at the tip of the jetty during peak tide change. The site is 1/3 of a mile walk from a town beach that charges a fee to park for the day.
From AquaExplorers; Take the Long Island Expressway east
to Exit 73, Old Country Road. Drive east on Old Country Road, through the
traffic circle, and make a left onto Northville Turnpike. Drive north to the end and
turn right on Sound Avenue. Continue east. Sound Avenue will become Middle Road
and then Main Road. Drive for .5 miles and turn right on Beach Road.
Drive .3 miles and turn right on Bay Road. This will take you to the jetty, but
not to any parking. Go back to Manhasset and drive south into Norman E. Klipp
Marine Park, or public beach to park. In season, this parking lot is posted as
open by permit only. I was told that nonresidents would be charged for beach
access.
