And since tablets have internet access why not just go to the website and upload the dives?
While all of this is cool, and it is neat you can do it, I find it time consuming enough to keep a paper log and an online log. Yes, I am a traditionalist and still keep and want a paper log of my dives.
This whole upload here, convert to format there, etc. is just way to much use of technology for me. :-)

That’s why I made the dive log section on DiveBuddy pretty basic and easy. You can log multiple dives on one log (just enter the total # of dives, and total bottom time). That way it saves time.
That’s also why I created this paper version: http://www.divebuddy.com/images/divelog.pdf
It mimics the online version so it’s easy to keep track on paper, then transpose to online if and when you want to.

Yup yup! I set up a SCUBA earth account and my word! If you go through the whole process it is like 4 pages of information to log a single dive. When I got back from my last Panama city trip it took me forever to log 4 dives - And don’t get me started on if you want to upload pictures and videos as well. LOL

My paper log also had prints of one picture from that dive but after a while the log started to weigh more than my laptop which I needed along anyhow to edit pictures so I stopped carrying the paper log.
I need to look into a new log program as well and will check these out, my Giant Stride was written for Win95 and some of the features just don’t work anymore :)
Yes Greg I know we can log here but that requires a WiFi connection which is not always available by the pool.

The problem with using a tablet or phone is that it is very hard to type on these devices. The problem with just using a web site is that most of them disappear after a couple years and then your data and log are gone with it.
My preference is to enter data into an easy to use PC version 1 time. Then from there upload it to web sites so I can share it and to my tablet so I can reference it when I am at a dive site. I am not looking for complicated. In fact the opposite. One easy entry into one program and then an easy distribution of that data to other sources. When this can happen, I will praise the program and the individual that authored it. Having it on my PC also allows me to back it up as part of my regular backup routine.

I am just giving my opinion and if it works for you that is awesome. As I said, I keep a paper log in a zippered binder and it is just as easy for me to get out of the water and between dives pull the data of my dive computer and enter it. Then I can literally enter a days worth of diving on dive buddy, which I visit every day anyway, in about 90 seconds. It doesn’t get any easier than that for me.
I’m getting the data cable for my computer as well so if I want to dig into detailed dive profile data I’ll have it in that format for reference.
