I was in the virgin islands in December. I was only on St. Thomas a couple of days. We stayed at villa Marbella and also rented a car from them. it had rained the day before we got there, Megan’s bay was closed and most of the locals said the water was too cold. (80 degrees). we went to the beach at the The Marriot resort, did a little snorkeling there. it seemed really nice just outside of town. This little city is quite busy because of the cruise ships. that’s why we chose to be out of town a little. we ate at Ziggy’s at Bolongo bay. there is a dive shop and dive boat right there. I did not get a chance to go out on it. We did spend one day at Coki Beach, which I highly recommend. you can rent scuba gear right there on the beach, I didn’t dive there but did spend most of the day snorkeling, absolutely the best snorkeling I ever did. St. John is only a 20 minute ferry ride away if you plan on staying on St. Thomas, We stayed a week on St. John. I also highly recommend Low Key Watersports out of Cruz Bay, St. John. a short walk from the ferry. They have over thirty dive spots and excellent dive masters. I was out with them a couple of times. as for equipment, they have it all, I took my own snorkel, fins, mask, and regs, but that was my personal preference. Water was 82 degrees. Have a great trip.
