My wife and I just bought the DC1000. She loves it, I haven’t seen it because I’m still in Afghanistan...we have some friends who have the DC 800 and they love it and their pictures are amazing. Lighting makes all the difference in the world either the digital strobe or a continous light source will improve your pictures regardless of the camera.
I know most people will say the extra mega-pixels matter, but if they don’t matter to you the camera is still high quality and will provide you some great pictures. I used a Reefmaster Mini for most of my pictures and once I added a strobe I increased the quality tremendously. I hope this helped.

I am still using my DC 500 and it works great. that said way a while until the DC1200 come out and the 1000s will go down in price.
that said I do not know if or when the 1200s will arrive, dont work for the company or have stock in them. :-)
I do like the ability to use all the same accessories with the newer systems as they come out. Always a plus in my book.

I’m currently using a DC-800. I find that it takes excellent pictures and it’s easy to use.
Since the DC-1000 came out, the price on the DC-800 has gone down.
One thing I do recommend is that you get a 4GB memory card for it.

My daughter has a DC800 and loves it. The main difference between the two is that the 1000 can use a separate wide angle lens, and the 800 has one built in. There are some upgrades in the 1000 to do with color settings as well. They are both great cameras.
