From mylcbean:
Or, since you’re from Bali, do you have any recommendation on when and where to dive on a budget? How much should I budget for my trip..I would like to log as many dives and of course see the mantas and Mola-Mola!! :D
Look forward to your reply! Cheers :)
Carol
Carol, all of Bali is budget diving, the US$ goes a long way! Tulamben is great, the entry at the Liberty wreck tricky over loose rocks. The dive is not over when you leave the wreck, on the way back to the beach watch for stingrays, sweetlips and garden eels.
In Padang Bai, if you don’t like Indoneasian food there is a place about a block toward town from Absolute Scuba that is Cheq owned or the cook is I’m not sure but that’s where we started eating.
Manta Point and the Mola-mola dives are cooler water than around Bali so dress warmer, a hood or beanie and gloves would help.
Kuta is a slum filled with drunk Aussie’s shopping in stores selling the same thing as any US mall. Good food was hard to find even at the US chains. Look for another option there even back up at Padang Bai.
Getting around is easy, you can hire a cab in Padang Bai for US$30 for the day to take you anywhere, just tell the driver what you want to see, temples, the monkey forest is good, we saw another temple carved out of the hillside (I can’t remember the name) with a lot of steps down in and back out with shopping all along the trail, hint, buy water going down and gifts coming out! The driver will suggest other places, as you might suspect he gets a cut but he did take us places we found things that we never saw in town.
Do Not rent a scooter! Once you see how they drive you’ll understand :)
