Does anyone know a good Resort to go to in Playa del Carmen? I would like to go in march and need a good place to do some diving?!

I did some diving with Pluto Dive shop in Playa del Carmen this past July. They were great and I highly recommend them. The owners are Alberto Salvini and Barbara Biasi, both PADI instructors. My wife and I went on vacation a few years ago with some friends and stayed at an Iberostar in Playa. I don’t remember which one it was but Iberostar’s are generally nice and a good time. I didn’t do any diving that trip but I’m sure the hotel can direct you to a few places. Good Luck!

I was just in Playa del Carmen a few weeks ago. There are a bunch of nice places to stay, particularly in Playacar. Playacar is directly south of town, and within easy walking distance. I don’t think you’ll go wrong if you stay anywhere in that area, but it is definitely designed with tourists in mind.


I stayed at the Riu Playacar. It’s an all-inclusive resort. The food was very, very good and the room was comfortable and clean.


There is diving available through the hotel, but I never even checked what they had to offer. I went into town and did my diving with Scuba Libre. There are several dive shops to choose from, and pricing seems to be about the same everywhere. I chose Scuba Libre based on their schedule.

I’ve been to a few of the Iberostars resorts and the Occidental Grand Xcaret. You can’t go wrong with any of them. The Occidental is next to Xcaret and includes one day admission. I don’t know about dive operators in Playa del Carmen, I’ve heard the diving isn’t great but you could always go to Cozumel via a 45 minute ferry ride. Great diving there and lots of good dive shops.
