I just did Kona in Nov. and I used Big Island Divers. 1 808 329 6068 They were AWESOME. They also have a nice web sight. I was going to take some gear but they have everything and it is new so I just took my computer. The whole Kona coast is a dive sight really but Big Island will send you to the good beach sights also.
I did go to a couple other dive shops got no service. I will not say their names cause anyone can have a bad day. The staff at Big Island really made my vacation.

North of Kona is Puako. All along thwe shore is good there, but especially at lot 56. Park by the road and enter at the beach access. swim out to the edge of the lava and drop. there is a lot of structure and swim throughs. South of Kona two step at the place of refuge is a must dive. Some of the best coral in Hawaii around the bowl. Of course you must do the manta dive, a bucket list dive for sure.

been to Kona twice, shore diving is amazing. check out shorediving.com. mile marker 4 and the old airport are both big favorites of mine. place of refuge is awesome as well. best hint I can give is get in early (7-8am) to avoid large swells. rented tanks from Jack’s dive locker as we stayed right in town, great place to deal with.
