the best one for photo editing would be Photoshop. you can download a free trial to see if you like here: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ just scroll down till you see photoshop CS, click try and so on

Photo Shop for stills and Avid or Pinicle for video. Avid is the industry standard, Avid was used for movies like King Kong, Brokeback Mtn, Etc. Both take study and traing, but worth the time and effort. We at Two Tanked Productions use and teach both. You have the right idea half the picture is done in the digital dark room!

What type of editing. Are you referring to pictures or text.
