Possible Relo to Sarasota: Any Good Diving Near Here?

As luck would have it, after almost two years of getting into SCUBA and the diving community in Palm Beach County, I’ve become a finalist for what could be an exciting position that’s based in Bradenton. My sense is that diving in the Gulf pales in comparison to what I’ve experienced in Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Obviously this would be one of several factors I’d need to consider before accepting an offer, should one be extended.

I’d appreciate any insights into the SCUBA and lifestyle benefits anyone sees of relocating from West Palm Beach to Bradenton/Sarasota.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Tony,
As a dive buddy I hate to see you relocate. My advice is where do you see a better quality of life for you and your wife. Needless to say diving is awesome down here and I wish I could do it more. However, the reality is, you can travel anywhere to go diving, you cannot always travel and settle down for a quality of life that you are looking for for you and your wife. One thing I’ve learned, opportunities come and go, life is about making choices and taking chances, BUT will they chance make you happy?
I know we only recently met and haven’t dove together in awhile, but if you need someone to talk to, Im here either in person or on the phone.
Your dive buddy,
Bernie

Hello Tony— I’ve been diving the Gulf Panhandle area for the past five years. Fish are not as big as Atlantic side or Caribbean, but are still plentiful. Of course I miss the colorful and variety of fishes on the east side. Gulf offers large grouper with many barracuda hanging around the descent line. I’ve learned to value just getting under the water. September was wonderful warm waters until Sally blew into the area. Her visit caused zero to half foot visibility. Sure messed up a few dives I was planning. Best wishes on your decision.
