This site is one of the many dive sites found in the Hol-Chan Marine Park. Begining your dive at 40-45 feet/13-14 meters divers descend to a large open tunnel at 50 feet. The tunnel is approximately 25 feet/8 meters long and descends to 70 feet/20 meters at the exit. Don’t be surprised if you find a Nurse Shark wanting to pass you in the tunnel. On the way to the tunnel and following the exciting swim through, divers encounter Nurse Sharks, huge Groupers, schools of yellowtail Snapper, Barjacks, and occasionally a Moray Eel. This site is also famous for the spotted Eagle Ray with wing spans of over 6 feet/2 meters. The numerous yellow-tailed Snapper and ever-friendly Nurse Sharks find pleasure accompanying you to your destination and back. As at all of our sites, abundant colorful smaller fish can be seen schooling in the corals or in mid-water. This site is excellent for both novice and advanced divers.
Located about three miles south of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, the Cypress Tunnels are a collection of swim-through tunnels in the reef. These are long tunnels, and while not narrow they are not spacious either. Good buoyancy control is necessary to avoid collisions with the surrounding rock, and you will need an underwater flashlight to find your way and view the sea life within the swim-through. Depths on the exit side of these tunnels is typically in the 100-foot range, so don’t spend a lot of time lingering there if you do not want to use up a lot of air and break your no-decompression limit.
