Summersville Lake in Summersville, WV is the cleanest clearest freshwater lake east of the Mississippi River according to "Skin Diver Magazine." The lake has a depth of 300+ feet with visibility during the on-season summer months of June thru September of 20-40+ feet depending upon rainfall. If we get heavy rains, the visibility can drop anywhere from 10 to 15 feet. Surface temperatures vary from 70-78 degrees in June to 80-85+ degrees in July - September. Trish and I were in the Society Islands (Tahiti, Raiatea, Taha’a, Bora Bora and Moorea) for a seven day cruise (July, 13-20, 2013) on the Paul Gauguin. This is a smaller ship (about 300 passengers). The cool part is that there is an opening on the stern that is used for water sports. For diving, you just jump in the Zodiac and the dive site is about 10-15 minutes away.
