NOTE: This club is intended to include divers around the Richmond, Va area and instructors, shops, agencies, etc. I’m trying to limit it only to technical divers and those with interest in pursuing technical diver training. All Richmond area divers are welcome provided they have an interest in technical diving. If you want to join our Facebook group go to the web address, click join and I will approve you.
There is a lack of a club that is primarily focused on technical divers in Richmond, Virginia and the immediate surroundings (40 mile radius). I have decided that it is too difficult to find enough buddies with comparable level of training, skill, in-water comfort, aspirations, etc. Additionally, none of the shops in this area are prepared to meet all of the needs of the technical divers. Furthermore, I believe without an easy way to meet other technical divers it reduces our numbers, in that many would-be technical divers in the recreational dive world do not even know technical diving exists. With a club that contains most of the areas technical divers it will be much easier for aspiring technical divers to get the mentoring needed to successfully break into this exciting and challenging sport.
Additionally, with the price of gas these days (both the breathing and automotive kinds) it is beneficial for technical divers to have buddies that are located in close proximity with which to share rides, exchange lies, share gear, and generally enjoy the sport.
The purpose of this club is manifold:
Mentoring less experienced and aspiring tech divers
Meeting other divers with comparable skill and training
Sharing rides (and saving gas!)
Planning technical trips
Collective bargaining (with training, service, consumables, trips, etc.)
