Hathaways Pond - Barnstable MA

Loading...
Hathaways Pond is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at Phinneys Ln, Barnstable, MA. This dive site has an average rating of 4.13 out of 5 from 15 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 51-60ft/16-18m. The average visibility is 16-20ft/5-6m. Training platforms are available.

Where many Boston area divers get certified when the ocean’s too cold. Hathaway’s Pond is great for open water and advanced navigation/rescue certifications due to its shielding from wind disturbance and simple underwater topography. Only bad thing to be said is the muck/algae cover is thick an easily disturbed so vis can get pretty bad during certs but its all part of the learning experience. Fish life is minimal, some perch, pumpkin seed, and one resident FW eel. There are some points of interest along the way, including a dive platform for skills testing in 15’ of water, a car, a tractor, an a 30’ wreck on the far side.

Perfect place to learn or just go exploring. Plenty to see and do at less than 30ft including a wreck, canoe, several statues, a beer keg, a Geocache! Lawn mower, several underwater platforms. Take your knife or pencil so you can sign the boat!

Fun Pond Dive. This is a kettle pond so it has a max depth of about 50ft in the center which is nice dive for newer divers to get a comfortable deeper dive. Lots of training dives happen here it seems and that is a benefit because its well cared for dive site. a small platform just off the beach and a string unique underwater sunken objects make it a oddly fun dive. there is a cabin cruiser sunk to explore and visibility is typically good.
