Quail Run Quarry - Malvern IA

Loading...
Quail Run Quarry is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located in Malvern, IA. The maximum depth is 81-90ft/25-27m. The average visibility is 11-15ft/3-5m. Training platforms are available.

Quail Run Quarry is located located on private property south of Malvern, Iowa, about 40 miles southeast of Omaha, Nebraska. This property and the quarry is privately owned and not open to the public. Underwater World Scuba, in Papillion, Nebraska, has contracted to use the site for dive training and sometimes conducts weekend fund dives or night dives with cook outs. UWW’s owner, Don Stanger, is good about working in ’for-fun’ divers with his training classes, too. Entrance fee to dive the Quarry is $10.00 per day on the weekends. Staff from UWW must be present in order for you to dive. In terms of diving in the greater Omaha area, Quail Run is about the best local dedicated dive site available. Bus, boat, and car on the bottom; bouyancy rings and a platform; large dock for entry (all UWW leased/managed). Thermoclines at ~15 and ~30. Divable year round (if you can make it down the dirt road to the quarry); visibility varies by season and with the weather (its a quarry, right?); some perch, bluegill, sunfish; bottom is stone with 50 years of muck.

Dove here several times with Underwater World Scuba, courtesy of Don Stanger, a diver’s diver. Viz is decent for a quarry, 10-30’ on good days, darker but better as you go deeper. Most of the divers are trainees and hang out near the dock. Go left from the dock and follow the terrain, its a great place to explore
