"The Pipe" is the names used by some people when referring to the treated sewage discharge pipe that comes off of the Hyperion Sewage Treatment Plant and into the Pacific Ocean for approximately 5 miles through Dockweiler Beach State Park. The Pipe is adjacent to LAX, and almost under the flight path of airlines departing from LAX. It is a 15-ft diameter concrete pipe, covered in medium sized boulders and many rocks, creating a hybrid natural/man-made reef. Best accessible by boat (as the best diving here is further off shore, divers can regularly see many kinds of crab, lobster, sea cucumbers, and octopus among other sea creatures.
