F Buoy Wreck is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Long Beach Island, NJ. The maximum depth is 26-30ft/8-9m. The average visibility is 26-30ft/8-9m.
F BUOY WRECK DIRECTIONS: (Long Beach Island, Atlantic County)
Note: This site is only accessible by boat. This wreck sits 200 yards southeast of Tuckers Island, which is located in Beach Haven Inlet just south of Long Beach Island. Never ever tie on to any buoy!
CONDITIONS: Located approximately100 feet southwest of the F Buoy near the Little Egg Inlet are the scattered remains of a wooden vessel believed to be an old sailing ship. Although her name or origin is not known to divers, she is well known to those fishermen who have lost rigs while drifting over the site. The wreckage can be easily identified by using a depth recorder. She sits in 28 feet of water and rises five feet of the bottom. Her wooden remains are scattered over 150 feet of sandy bottom. There are many fishing rigs and lures around the wreck site so divers should be careful. Small bait fish as well as stripped bass and bluefish are common and it’s not uncommon to see lobster, although they are mostly small. In her wooden planks brass spikes of various sizes still hold decking together. Two large wooden masts can be found amidships. No heavy machinery has been located, therefore it is our belief that the wreck has been salvaged. Although it may be possible to swim to the wreck from Tucker’s Island it is not advisable due to the current and boat traffic. As a matter of fact, it is best only to dive this site during the winter months and at slack tide. Visibility is dictated by weather and tides, when conditions are right visibility can be 30 feet.
