South Padre Island will be celebrating the 6th annual sinking of the
Texas Clipper. Come join us for an exciting 2-tank dive in exploring part of the 473 foot ship which sits between 60 and 130 feet. This vessel is the largest of the 12 artificial reefs off the Texas coast at 7000 tons and 17 nautical miles off the coast of South Padre Island. We will be diving the Clipper on Sunday, 9/22, leaving the marina at 6:00 am and returning by 2:00 pm. Breakfast will be served to the divers on the way out, and upon return will be greeted with burgers, brats, beer and t-shirts. What can be better than THAT?! BUT WAIT! No! No Ginsu knives here.. but it doesn’t end there... Some really cool prizes will be raffled. Like what? Stuff from Atomic, JBL, Sea Life Cameras, Red, White and Blue back plate and wing from Halcyon are a small sample of the giveaway prizes.
In their celebration, the dive operator (
American Diving) has also dropped their standard price from $175 to $165 p.p., tanks and weights included (plus 10% fuel charge and optional $10/cyl for Nitrox). As if though all of this is not enough, this is also a fund raiser for Air Warriors Courage Foundation (501 c nonprofit) established for the Wounded Warriors dive program at BAMC in San Antonio, Texas. So, we get to have fun, eat and dive and the Wounded Warriors dive program will also benefit from our proceeds.
Our plan is to depart for our road trip from San Antonio some time Saturday morning on 9/21, arrive into South Padre Island, get checked into our rooms and relax for the afternoon and evening (still working on hotel group rates which are dependent on group size. Preliminary estimates indicate approximately $80 pp). The following morning, we will rise and shine before the chickens to catch the 6:00 am departure from the marina. We will be returning to San Antonio after the dive, but if others would like to stay for an additional night, please let me know so that I may negotiate room group rates. Or who knows... we may decide to stay because we will be POOPED!
Although the highest portions of the wreck may be explored by entry level divers (guided recommendation), Advanced Open Water Divers and Nitrox certifications are highly recommended by American Diving.
A $50 security deposit is required to hold your spot, with the balance due by Sunday 9/15. Paid deposits become non-refundable after 9/15. If the dive is cancelled by the operator due to weather, refunds will issued.
Not Advanced Open Water Diver or Nitrox certified? Then please check out
