Chinchorro Banks and the Yucatan Trail

The NYUPS April meeting will feature a region with some of best diving and underwater photography in the world - Caribbean Mexico. Our special guest speaker, Javier Salas, is the owner of XTC Dive Center in Xcalak, Mexico. He will be joined by DPG publisher Matt Weiss to talk about the area’s special diving.

The talk will cover the Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve, part of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere program, and go north through the Yucatan as far as Isla Mujeres. Javier and Matt will be showing photos of whale sharks, sailfish, bull sharks, crocs, manatees, wrecks and more. Javier will talk in depth about the diving in the region and there will be a special focus on diving Banco Chinchorro, the western hemisphere´s largest coral atoll, where he owns and operates XTC Dive Center.
