Back in 2005, Blue Grotto was up for auction by the National Auction Group. The highest bid of $1.5 million was turned down by the owner.

Looks like a cool place. Not a bad idea for a home with built in business. Anyone know how busy it stays with divers all year round?

I believe it costs $40 per diver and it stays pretty busy year round. I’ve read comments about how it gets very crowded on the weekends.
If you took out a loan to buy this business, you’re looking at over $13,000 per month. Add at least another $7000 per month for insurance, employees, maintenance etc. At $40 a pop, you need 500 scuba divers to visit per month just to pay your $20,000 in monthly bills.

I was diving there yesterday and they have a sale in negotiation.

That’s about what I was thinking. Ouch! Maybe if I sold hot dogs and soda on the side? ;-)

Maybe that’s why he’s selling. There are tons of springs to explore in Fl and some are a lot cheaper then $40.00

While this is true, Blue Grotto is a favorite for those of us who prefer spring diving in Florida.
It is also a preferred dive site for Cave Diving training.

I heard that it has already been sold. The new owners are said to be putting in pools and upgrading the existing facilities.

I have been there a few times over the last few months. The new owners have done many improvements with many more planed! Brand new decks and pavilions done. Old pavilions removed. New bathhouses to be completed soon. Cabins and camping in the near future. Pool to be built. There is a cave system under the property never open to divers before that they are working on for instructors to do guided tours and cave training.

From ScubaCrab: There is a cave system under the property never open to divers before that they are working on for instructors to do guided tours and cave training.
That sounds pretty exciting. What kind of work are they doing on the cave? Mapping it, making it bigger, removing debris, adding lights/ropes?

Yhey said they were removing silt and debri from entry points. Testing stability to ensure safety! It sounded as though some mapping has been done as for he was very knowledgeable of the areas it was in?
