Ron makes good points and that covers most of the possible problems. You had already stated that you do not have any danglies and that is great. As an instructor that is something I loathe and seeing other instructor’s students drag gages and octos around in the dirt gives me shivers and that is before they get in the water.
Consider how you have your snap clip mounted. As well as keeping the gage close to the body ensure that the glass, or plastic, face is pointed in toward your body thereby helping protect it further.
You may try polishing out small scratches with toothpaste and some tissue paper. It is good to hear that someone is looking after their gear the way you are. After all it is life saving equipment which you and your buddy rely on.
Take care and Best Fishes!!!
