 Inflator Hose Length

Hey guys,

I was wondering how to pick the correct low pressure inflator hose length.

I’m 5’9, wear a small BCD, with a piston regulator.

If you pick one and it ends up being a bit too long, just wrap it around the inflator a time or two and that will get rid of the slack. I wrap mine and that helped with streamlining.

Mine’s too long also and tends to push the inflator across my chest. having the horn on it doesn’t help, that adds a few inches.

I need to measure it set up on the BC, subtract out the excess and horn and order one of the new more flexable ones like http://www.piranhadivemfg.com/category/Super-Flex-BC-Hose-154 although that one is only 12" they do make other lenghts.

DSS and Piranha also have end caps that make it easier to disconnect with wet fingers or in the case of a runaway inflator.

Standard length is 27inches. If you are using the thinner more flexible hosing then you can knock off some more inches. Its all a matter of preference/comfort.

Good question. If you have a local dive shop that you like, I would suggest bringing your gear in and have them hook up several different lengths of hoses. An inch or two can make a big difference in how your inflator will behave. Try to avoid having a big bow in your hose above your shoulder because it is more likely to snag on things underwater.
