Scuba Tank as Air Source for Tools or Tires

Has anyone ever setup something to use their scuba tank as the air source for tools that work with an air compressor? Or have you filled tires with you scuba tank? What adapters/equipment did you use?

Here is a company that sells a tank, adapters and hoses for filling up RV tires: powertank.com/category.rv

The tank looks like a small aluminum scuba tank (by Luxfer). It’s filled with C02 and has a regulator that drops the pressure down to 160 PSI. It includes a quick disconnect valve and a hose with tire inflator and pressure checker.

I have an old working first stage that i’ve adjusted to 170 psi out with a 4’ hose and air chuck for filling tires plus a blow adapter for blowing out dust or drying out equipment. Cost was only for the 2 adapters as old first stage would have been thrown away as unserviceable for scuba. Works with any yoke valve tank.

The problem with air tools is the large amount of air needed to run them. You can run them off your tank but not for very long. I have an adapter to fill tires that can be attached to my BC hose.

I bought a 1/8" npt male fitting from LP (which they don’t seem to list anymore) for use on the BC inflator and then screw it into an air chuck, blow gun or my sand lift as needed. It snaps into the BC quick disconnect and the first stage limits it to 150 psi.

I have an adaptor I used for filling air bags. I can use it for tires and such if I want.

Any links to adapters for stuff like this that you all have bought and recommend?

I have a tire air chuck and blow gun. It’s easy to attach anything you need with this adapter.

That top one is what I have, you could also get one from your friendly neighborhood dive equipment tech off an old stuck BC inflator he was going to trash.

OR just call Triple A to come fix the flat. Still a nice add to the save a dive box.

I had a cracked rim on my car for a while that would bleed down the tire nearly every day, so until I could replace it I carried a scuba cylinder around with me, using my first stage and the QuickConnect Schroeder valve adapter for the BC low pressure inflation hose that Rich mentioned. I could get about eight good tire fills out of an Aluminum S80 and as many odd stares from passers by. Haha!

In the early days of BC inflators, one of my rigs had a a screw-on fitting that screwed onto a tire schrader valve. I kept that LP hose to fill inner tube floats etc. I never had the need to fill an automobile tire but it would have worked fine. We frequently camped when scuba diving in Monterey and would use that inflator to help start the campfire. Probably not an OSHA/NFPA approved activity.
