Devil’s Den Springs (Devils Den) - Williston FL

Loading...
Devil’s Den Springs (Devils Den) is a fresh water dive site, located at 5390 NE 180th Ave, Williston, FL 32696. This dive site has an average rating of 4.02 out of 5 from 204 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 51-60ft/16-18m. The average visibility is 91-100ft/28-30m. This dive site provides bathrooms and airfills. Training platforms are available.

Devils Den is a great cavern dive near central Florida. Be careful on the steps as you descend into the mouth of Devils Den. And watch your head as you go under the rocks. You’ll see some large catfish that are apparently trapped in the cavern (or maybe they know a secret way out). While underwater, spend time looking up at the light coming through the cavern and into the water. Bring a couple lights, it’s not really a cave...but there are some spots that get dark since it can become pretty enclosed. If you don’t like tight spaces, try to avoid going through some of the small openings. I never had to take off my gear to push through, but I didn’t have to wiggle my way through some spots.

Don’t go beyond the bars or signs underwater, they’re there for a reason. Checkout the neat bones and other stuff lying on the floor in some spots...this place really does seem pre-historic.

There are training platforms to use and a pool on site as well. The cabins on site are also very nice and cozy (with kitchens and bathrooms).

Looks beautiful. A little hole in the ground that one can take steps down into in order to access. Very unique experience. Otherwise, diving is simple and not at all exciting past the first dive. Avoid weekend diving. Small area with lots of Open Water Divers. It is like being on an overcrowded playground with kids. Blue Grotto and Ginnie Springs are also nearby, with Blue Grotto literally being located across the street.

Great dive. Devil’s Den Spring is a natural spring located in central Florida. It’s a unique because it’s located inside an underground cavern. 72-degree water temperature year round. Ancient rock formations with stalactites, fossil beds dating back 33 million years, and much more. I did Blue Grotto same day. There close. Then go to Crystal River and snorkel with Manatee’s. Well worth it.

I went scuba diving here on 4/10/2022. Average viz: 71-80ft/22-24m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
Fun little dive. Was initially worried there might be too many people in the cavern when we started going down the steps but it cleared out considerably once you got beneath the snorkelers. Visability was really good but lights are almost a must as there is not a lot of light that comes through the top of the dome, even at almost noon. Lots of cool fossils to look at and passages to swim through. Personal opinion: of the two springs within a few miles of each other, Blue Grotto is better to train at and Devil’s Den is the more fun dive.

I went scuba diving here on 7/1/2021. Average viz: 41-50ft/12-15m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
Beautiful day outside, arrived here about 15 minutes before opening time on a Thursday. There was already a line of people waiting. Most people were there for snorkeling, not diving. By the time we started heading down the stairs, the two platforms were full of people (snorkelers) and it looked like a party. Everyone was nice enough and gave us room to get down and into the water, so no complaints there. The visibility wasn’t great and it was darker than I recall. I attributed the darkness to the sun still being low in the sky and not making it through the opening in the ceiling to brighten things up.

Recommend calling ahead if you’ll be needing fills, as the fill station wasn’t working. They’ll suggest heading across the street (a mile or two) to Blue Grotto to get fills. It’s a nice place to go and blow some bubbles for a spring dive.

Hi all,

Looking for a buddy to dive the den, blue grotto and rainbow river within the next week. Drop me a line if you are keen!
IreneSmash - 12/08/2020 1:51 AM
Hey! I’m going to be there on January 16th and 17th if you’re interested in going again or at a later time. (:
Aconite - 12/08/2020 2:38 AM
Good timing! I’m off work that week of 12/14/20 (busy Thu/Fri). I’d love to catch any or all of them.
IreneSmash - 12/08/2020 7:15 AM
@Aconite, that sounds perfect! I haven’t made my reservation yet, but I was planning on it tomorrow or the day after. Saturday or Sunday work for me! 😁 But I haven’t been approved by an admin yet, so I can’t message you my phone number or anything without having it up on this site. 🥺 Could you maybe me message me yours so we can set something up? 🙂
Chiltgen - 12/08/2020 7:34 AM
Hey Irene, can do the 16th and possibly the 17th, will confirm on the 17th in the next couple days. I’ve heard the weekends get pretty messy with a lot of divers so trying to do it during the week. @Aconite, I’d be up for the 15th as well if you want to do the 15&16th.
Aconite - 12/08/2020 12:31 PM
@Chiltgen — Dec 15&16 I can do. Calendar marked and I’ll be in touch. @IreneSmash — I can probably do Jan 16&17. I may have the 18th off for MLK day holiday. Sending both of you my number in direct message.
Chiltgen - 12/08/2020 6:39 PM
Hey Irene, got it, feel free to delete when needed. I’ll drop you a message, it’s from an overseas number so don’t be alarmed. Also, my travel plans changed so I’m too to go on the 16&17th
IreneSmash - 12/08/2020 7:17 PM
Awesome! No worries, do you have WhatsApp? I can message you via there and we can save on the overseas charges 😁👍🏻

I know I’m super ahead of the game, but is anyone looking to go to scuba Devil’s den in January 2021? Looking for a dive buddy. (:
ScubaKyle87 - 10/02/2020 1:40 PM
I’m looking to dive DD tomorrow, 10/2 at 2pm while my wife snorkels. Anyone available to join?
SantaFeSandy - 10/02/2020 6:54 PM
I just messaged you. Check your mail.
SantaFeSandy - 10/02/2020 6:56 PM
A mile down the road is Blue Grotto, and we allow snorkeling on the weekends when with a diver. Being a weekend, you should have no problem finding a buddy to tagalong with. I work in the office. Ask for Sandy.

This was a lot better than I expected. It was beautiful after walking down the stairs. It resembles a Mexican cenote up top, and has some pretty cool mini cave-like swim throughs in the cavern zone. There are a lot of snorkelers up top, but you don’t notice them at all as a diver, and they don’t silt anything up anyway. Visibility was medium for me due to high traffic by the afternoon on a weekend. Staff was great. I recommend this dive site, especially if you can do it and blue grotto, across the street, on the same day.

This is where I did my check out dives. I was scared in that hole. But after I was finished, it was all cool. Very cool place. Thank you my people. Native Americans!
fisharefriends - 10/22/2019 6:39 PM
DD has cool rock formations with light opportunities for diving in overhead environments, as well as a catfish.
