Crescent Bay Seal Rock - Laguna Beach CA

Crescent Bay Seal Rock is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in Laguna Beach, CA. This dive site has an average rating of 3.59 out of 5 from 34 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 36-40ft/11-12m. The average visibility is 11-15ft/3-5m.

A great rocky reef to the right. Watch out that you don’t get caught in the shallow reefs in heavy surf. There are usually sea lions at the large rock looking right (West) from the beach. There is a large deeper reef called "Deadmans" reef further out.

For the best dive, take the swim out to Deadman’s Reef, if the current and waves aren’t too bad. This site can get blown out, and be very aware of the weather conditions. A difficult entry can end up being a dangerous exit when the seas kick up.

Good for So Cal. Some marine life. Occasional seals. Good for beginners. The negatives; expect crowds and insane crazy parking (if any) unless you get there at 6am. If you only dive So Cal, you will be please with the amount of wildlife. If you dive at other more exotic locations outside of California, you will probably be disappointed.

I went scuba diving here on 4/8/2012. Average viz: 11-15ft/3-5m. Water temp: 56-60°F/13-16°C.
Easter Day early AM dive. After a few weeks of intense surf and swell conditions making it prohibitive to diving we went out. The tide was reaally low due to another perigean moon event on the day before. The water was probably 20-30 ft farther out then normal which also caused the surf to appear larger occasionally than it was. There was virtually no swell and occasional 3 ft wave water was a little green but we made a quick tour to the first reef and then navigated right back in. Good dive getting back in the water with NBTT dive group. Get out and dive with us. http://www.nbttdiveclub.com

I went scuba diving here on 1/8/2012. Average viz: 16-20ft/5-6m. Water temp: 56-60°F/13-16°C.
Was an unexpectedly great dive after 4-5 days where the beaches were closed to diving with very high surf. The beach has nearly been washed out but with the swell ebbing and arrival of santa ana winds once we got past a few 4 - 6 ft waves short intervals between waves and choppy / rip tide effect the visibility was crystal clear. We went West to the reef in front of seal rock, lots of marine activity, eel, lobster, garibaldi, and sea lions. Exit was rough with Mike getting ejected onto the shore (safely) I took two large breakers on the head but got my ejection seat to shore. Another great dive with NBTT (No Beach Too Tough).

I went scuba diving here on 12/4/2011. Average viz: 41-50ft/12-15m. Water temp: 61-65°F/16-18°C.
Amazing visibility, Rare Pristine conditions, like diving in the Caribbean without the warm water. We hit the reef in front of Seal Rock. Just made like a circle and then kicked in. Lots of life and a chance for Molly and Brian (new divers) to refine their buoyancy and propulsion skills. They did very well hope to see them out there often.
