Loch Low-Minn Quarry is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at 116 County Road 420, Athens, TN 37303. This dive site has an average rating of 3.95 out of 5 from 43 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 71-80ft/22-24m. The average visibility is 26-30ft/8-9m. This dive site provides bathrooms and airfills. Training platforms are available.

Loch Low-Minn is a dive resort dedicated to instructors, students, and certified divers. To ensure safety to all divers and to satisfy insurance requirements, no children under 12 or pets are allowed. The only exception is if the child is participating in a diving class. Non-diving adults are welcome but must pay a visitors admission charge and sign a liability waiver.

Paddlefish are one of the oldest fishes, with fossil records dating their first appearance at 300 to 400 million years ago (about 50 million years before the first dinosaurs appeared). The North American paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) has only one other species as a member of the same family.

Paddlefish can be distinguished from other freshwater fish by the presence of a very large mouth, and a long, paddle-shaped snout (called a rostrum) that is about one third the length of the body. Paddlefish are one of the largest freshwater fishes in North America, commonly reaching 5 feet or more in length and 60 pounds in weight. The largest paddlefish on record was caught in Iowa and weighed 198 pounds. Although determining their age is difficult, some studies have recently estimated that paddlefish may live in excess of 50 years.

fisharefriends - 6/28/2020 8:21 PM Rating Added: 5 LLM has some diverse terrain. There are multiple trees underwater, neat rock formations, and an otherworldy cruise at the bottom (80 feet). The amount of tall grass present was unexpected and enjoyable to spread my fins and soar over. The paddlefish are impressive and there were plenty of other fish, including a nesting ground in front of the drop-in zone. Temperature at the bottom was 55F in late June.

Harrisinford575 - 9/08/2015 1:07 PM Rating Added: 5 Made 2 dives here on 09-06-2015. Great visibility with some interesting underwater attractions. The staff was courteous and helpful. They often drove down in the John Deer Gator and checked on everyone to see if anyone needed tank refills etc. We saw shell crackers, small mouth bass, and catfish, especially around the entrance to the water. We looked around for paddle fish and finally got an unexpected glimpse of one on the second dive right in the middle of the loch at around 30 feet deep as we were crossing. Try to get there early and request a table on the shady side.

Officer737 - 10/06/2014 5:09 PM Rating Added: 5 I did my checkout dives here on Sept. 20- Sept. 21, 2014. Viz was 20’ plus as we could see the two training platforms from the top of the water. Saw a lot of catfish and even a paddle fish on our "fun dive". Water was 79 degrees. As this was my first dive site I can’t compare it to anything but I will be diving there quite a bit.

kelemvor - 8/13/2013 1:28 PM If you want to dive this site, make sure you call them well in advance for a reservation. My buddy and I planned to dive it while in town but when we called she said they normally are only open on the weekends and wouldn’t schedule time for us to dive while we were there. Good thing diving wasn’t the only thing we wanted to do while we were in the area.

McNair - 6/27/2013 12:35 PM Rating Added: 5 Great site for training and love seeing the Sturgeon that live here. Huge Paddlefish! They are very fun to watch if you are lucky enough to see them. There is also a GIANT GREAT WHITE SHARK that lives here. He is very patient and lets divers have there picture taken with him. :)

Did basic skills including isolating and shutting down tanks, bouncy control, and deploying SMB. Eight pounds of weight used with dry suit

Great dive site, Stacy was nice, prices were reasonable, location was easy to get too. Water was really cold. Didn’t see any paddlefish during our dive, but divers that dove twice reported seeing several in a different spot. Water was clean and clear. The place was packed and the water vis was not very good due to the traffic. The thermoclad was at about 35’. This was my first trip. I did see one large paddle fish that was nice. I would like to see the place when it’s not so crowded. TNRonin - 9/10/2012 12:46 PM Butchie, I don’t know where you are hailing from, but the viz is horrible right now, just wait until you visit when the viz is good! You need to go to the right from the entry point to get away from the students plowing up the bottom.
