Couldn’t live without the ocean.
I was born and raised on the North East coast of England right on the North Sea.
Not much scuba diving in my earlier years.
Joined the Royal Navy in January of 1997 as a Weapon Engineer. It was during my 9 years in the Navy that I learned to dive.
Left the RN in September 2005 as a Chief Petty Officer WEA(WD) and went directly to Thailand to become a Divemaster.
Upon my return to England I was married to Jules (originally from PA) and moved to South Florida.
I graduated Pro Dive Fort Lauderdale’s IDC in 2006 but did not persue a career in diving.
I now work for Saipem America Inc as an ROV Supervisor in the ultra deep oilfields of the Gulf of Mexico.
It mixes my love of the ocean with my love of diving and engineering and stops my wallet from thinning out!!

The only time I saw cobia diving was off miami beach on a 60 ft. reef, 2 big ones following an enormous turtle. I maybe (big maybe) would have had a shot but I was using my 36" that i prefer for the shallow reefs...not much range with that.

Wow nice!! If I remember from last year, I was up around Sebastian inlet in late spring and the locals were all hot on the cobia, I guess they were on a migration. All I remember is they were thick close to shore and we planned on coming up this year with the boat. I was thinking maybe May?

I do most of my diving from ft. lauderdale to south beach and also the lower keys. Is the spearfishing decent up your way?

Very nice for a first cobia, I’m hoping to get my first this spring. I’m told they run very close to shore in late spring up north a bit like Sebastian Inlet area. So you dive local much?
